The start

I worked on this project as a part of my Web 3 Cohort BuildOnChain. We wanted to build a system which will help users achieve their goals and if they fail to do so, they pay.
Hence came YAGMI, short form forā€” You are going to make it, a web3 spin on social accountability by staking money.
We realised that staking money adds more ā€˜seriousnessā€™ towards our goals and actions. Money is an excellent motivation because letā€™s be honest losing money feels terrible. We want users to have skin-in-the-game while setting up ambitious goals.

Why Web3?

The whole system will run on smart contracts, which means:
  • The contract is immutable, i.e. both goal setter and accountability partner have to follow through the rules.
  • Even if the goal setter forgets to update their goals or the accountability partner forgets to accept or reject it, smart contract will do the needful in their absence too.
  • Opens up lot more possibilities of extending from just one trusted friend to an eventual P2P network who verify the proof of work in a decentralised way.
  • We also are giving a beautiful NFT for accomplishing the goals which will act as a social proof for them! Minted NFTs could act as a legitimate signal of trusted verified proof of work on chain.

What we wanted to achieve through Yagmi

  1. We wanted to help people accomplish their tasks in a way which doesnā€™t feel overwhelming. Additionally we wanted to ensure that the goal setters remain serious about accomplishing their goals by having tangible impact on winning or losing.
  1. To make sure the users doesnā€™t feel alone in this journey, for this we designed in the interfaces in a way which convey the right emotions so that the whole journey feels more interactive.
  1. Since money is involved in the whole flow, we wanted to ensure that users alway felt they were always in the control of their money. We have assumed that the accountability partner is someone the goal setter trusts.

Design process

User flow
We created the user flows on Miro for the two segments of users who will be using Yagmi

  1. Goal setters (The one who is going to set the goals)

Brand Emotions

Before jumping on to visual designs we wanted define the emotions we wanted to convey through Yagmi, after talking with other people who struggle with procrastination these were the emotions we zeroed down.

šŸ˜‡Ā Empathy

šŸ¤—Ā Trust

šŸ¤©Ā Encouragement

We wanted to make sure our platform is a place where the users feels at ease and happy to complete the goals.
Ā
Brand Colours
We decided on proceeding with following primary colours which we identified with our brand emotions
notion image
We chose yellow because its a cheerful colour and brings joy & energy. Pink gives a very comforting look and conveys the feeling of empathy.
Ā
Emoji
To make sure that the user doesnā€™t feel alone in his journey and to make the whole process more interactive for both Goal setters and accountability partner we used emojis if any key steps is taken.

NFT
We designed a beautiful 3D NFT to encourage users to achieve their goals, hence acting as a social proof for achieving their goals.

Final designs overview

Ā
We wanted to make sure that all the fields come in first fold itself. Informing how much extra
Matic will be charged in gas fee helps us set userā€™s expectations right and feel in control.
Following law of common region we kept the invite link for accountability partner near the field where the Goal setter can put his accountability partnerā€™s wallet address.

Accept challenge popup

Ā
We made sure that every step the user is alway secure about his Matic and is always aware about what is going to happen with his money.

Goal setterā€™s Dashboard

The emoticons helps in making sure that the key steps are less overwhelming for the user
Using bold text in a contrasting colour helps grabs user attentions and let them know the step of the process they are in.
The user is well informed the status of his Matic throughout the process to ease their anxiety.
Ā
Accountability partnerā€™s Dashboard

We used heart and thumbs down emoticons to make the dashboard feel more interactive. Links helps to make sure that proof of work can be of any form be it image, video, texts, notion document etc.

Future scope
Our plan for the future is to make YAGMI DAO for high achievers where people who have achieved feats or discipline can come together.
We had a lot of fun brainstorming on how to make the experience delightful for the user such that they remain motivated throughout the journey, thanks for reading through the case studies and all your thoughts & suggestions are welcome
